Excessive thick Mucus/ NO post nasal drip or infection!

by Hackerking, Nov 04, 2008 01:55PM
I had a very bad cold/flu a couple years back.  I lost my since of smell. I could not smell anything. A year or 2 later I have just started to smell again.  But the whole time I have had this terrible THICK STICKY MUCUS.  I can not talk to anyone without having it make me clear my throat. Very Very embarrassing! I cough it up, it is clear thick and a little stringy. I do not have a cold or Post nasal drip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I also smell a weird smell when I urinate. I also feel like this stickyness comes out my pores. I sweat and my hands feel real sticky.

any thoughts?

The first order of business should be to determine the source of the thick sticky mucus, be it your nose, sinuses, larynx or lungs.  You will need to see a doctor to accomplish this.  Only then, when the source is diagnosed, will it be possible to seek the cause and treat it directly.  Whenever a person loses or acquires a diminished sense of smell, the problem of strange smells, seemingly unconnected to your environment can occur.  It would be good to determine if the weird smell is originating in your nose or the weird smell is actually coming from your urine.  If the latter, you will need examination of your urine.

You should consider requesting consultation with an ENT specialist.
