I don't know what wonder drug you are refering to?
You absolutely need to go through an emergency room and get into a hospital bed so they can give you all the tests immediately, not over a period of time.

Your post is on the smoking addiction board and not the medical doctor board. We are somkers or ex-smokers here and are not qualified to answer you.

I wish you luck and please let us know how you are doing.

Congrats on your quit. I'm sorry that you had such bad side effects.
I used Chantix and had absolutely no extreme effects. A bit of upset stomach was the worst of it. I took it for a month and a half and have been quit for 1 year and 1 month!

There are times when I still feel and urge, especially when stressed, but it goes away in mere seconds and it doesn't happen often : )

I hope you feel better with each day and thanks for offering your help. We can all use it : )

I am ready to quit, and noticed you said you took Chantix. would you recommend this pill? How long after being on Chantix did you actually stop smoking? I was prescribed bupropian, and wonder if maybe Chantix would be better.

Before Chantix came along Wellbutrin (bupropian) was used with fairly decent results. I am not sure of the stats but Chantix is more effective at 44% quit rate.
More then anything, you really have to prepare yourself for your quit. What helped me a great deal was reading all of the articles at whyquitdotcom

My experience with Chantix wasn't bad at all. There are some who weren't as lucky so you might want to read through the forum and see what everyone has to say about it. I smoked for 38 years and was able to quit after 6 weeks on the pill so I was in that 44%.

Support is so important so make sure you surround yourself with positive people and we are here for you should you need us : )

Good luck!

Thank you for responding, I have been searching through forums and trying to get information for a week now. I am a recovering alcoholic/addict and smoking is the last addiction left! So I am ready to stop. I am going to talk to my doctor about both pills, again, thank you for responding. I do not know anyone who has quit; so its hard to find advice.

After you started Chantix, how long before you actually stopped smoking all together. What were some of the side effects you noticed?

I didn't follow the directions exactly so I am not a good example. What I can tell you is that I quit in 6 weeks and I truly didn't want another one after that period of time. If I did, then I would have continued taking them (no shame in that). My side effects seem to be the most common, upset stomach and gas but please know that there are others who have talked about leg cramps, seizures and other horrible things. I did have withdrawals and I don't know if they were lessened by the Chantix as I have nothing to compare them to. I think that the Wellbutrin might help with those.

I smoked for 38+ years and I am happy to say that I am "quit" over a year. I still read the articles at whyquitdotcom as I don't ever want to have to go through this again : )

Keep us posted on your progress and remember that we are here to help you.

I started taking chantix as perscribed and quit at about 12 days. It worked well for me as long as I continued to take it. A few times I slacked off taking it and someting stressful happened and I smoked for a few days but got right back on. My goal is to get 90 days and then take it PRN as my doctor recomemded.
