treatment remedies for cough-variant asthma

by judith925, Nov 06, 2008 11:38AM
Your last answer was very helpful.  I am experiencing definite improvement using COMBIVENT that lasts about 4 hours and am coughing less. Most foods, however, still trigger coughing spells. You mentioned there are more potent remedies for this condition.  Please list the names of them so I can discuss them with my doctor and  start using one that is  more effective in alleviating my cough symptoms. Thank you. (I am awaiting results of a pulmonary function test and intend to see a specialist, however, I would appreciate the names of several medications you recommend that are better than COMBIVENT--which ones would be at the top of your list?)
Again, thanks for your help.

Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol and Symbicort® (budesonide/formoterol fumarate dehydrate) Inhalation Aerosol are commonly used, effective asthma medicines that contain an inhaled steroid and a long-acting bronchodilator.  Some individuals achieve control with but a single medicine, an inhaled steroid such as Flovent® (fluticasone) or Pulmicort® (budesonide).  There is also a less potent but effective, convenient medicine also worthy of consideration, called Singulair®, which is taken as a pill once daily.  You can continue to use the Combivent® Inhalation Aerosol (ipratropium bromide and albuterol sulfate)as a rescue inhaler when you have acute worsening of cough or ask your doctor for an albuterol inhaler.

Good luck.
