by fullofit, Nov 06, 2008 04:23PM
I have had a (cold) sinus congestion and caughng for over a year now. Catscan showed my sinuses plugged, so went to the ears nose and throught specialist who put me on steroid nasal spray and allergy pills. The caugh cleared up for a few weeks and came back, the nasal c ... [More] ongestion never did. Now I'm caughing and sometimes can't stop, more so at night when I lay down and morning when I get up. When I caugh there the mucas is clear and little to none. Any suggestions?

You might want to ask the ENT if your sinus congestion has been relieved or still a problem and, if the latter, might surgery offer a better chance of unplugging them.  Also, is your nose obstructed, either by polyps or deformity, and if so might that be preventing you from getting optimum benefit from the inhaled steroids?

There are numerous causes of cough, including postnasal mucus drip, but it shouldn't be assumed that because it is present, it is the cause.  You should ask the specialist about the possibility of there being another cause.

Good luck.
