CT scan ?'s and partiod gland swelling X6 months

Hello Dr,

I have had a long process with this problem.  It started in May with a sinus infection that was treated with antibiotics.  I proceeded to get thrush in my voicebox, which in turn until recently I have had no voice(speech therapy is helping).  In the whole process, July I had a CT scan of my neck, which showed "benign looking submandibular glands".  I have had swelling of my face and jaw behind my ears, but most of the time I have no pain except when I talk.  This pain is going down my throat to my collar bone.  I have been told that it is nothing, but I am really scared that something is really wrong as the muscle in my neck on the right side front has disappeared when it should be there. The EENT today told my it was parotid gland inflamation, but this has been happening for months on and off on the right side and consitently on the left side.

I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and about 15 years ago had a very violent(sp?) bout of cytomegalovirus,  IBS, GERD, and asthma.   I quit smoking about 2 months ago.  I am on the GERD medication for 4 months, migraine meds, ibuprofen, and a daily vitamin, and a sleeping med.

I would appreciate any help or guidance you can give me in my quest to be heard & help outof this discomfort so I can get back to working as a telephone operator or a nurse that I am.

Autoimmune diseases often affect the salivary glands as you described.  Neck pain is common with patients who have your disorders.

Perhaps you should speak with your immunologist about taking medications to combat the autoimmune responses that are causing your symptoms.  Consultation with a Pain Specialist may also be useful.

What you have described does not appear to be related to my specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
