Could this be heart related?

by tooyoung99, Nov 07, 2008 12:07PM
I am a 27 yr old female and am very concerned about my heart.  I have been having this chest pain that is on the left side of my chest and into my back and shoulder.  I have high cholesterol total 279, ldl 160, hdl 89, and tri 115.  This pain is on and off, it seems to be worse with movement.  I have been to my doctor and to the ER several times and they say that I am perfectly healthy.  I have had several chest x-rays, a ct scan of my chest, just about every blood test under the sun and lots of ekgs which have all come back normal.  I am 5'5 and weigh about 150 pounds.  I don't have any family history of heart disease that I know of my mom is 56 and had a stroke about a month ago, but she has high blood pressure and diabetes.  My father has high cholesterol, but is  61 and has never had any heart problems.  The doctors say that it is in my head and is caused by anxiety, but is there some other test that I should be asking for?

IT is unlikely that this is something life threatening. But it is clearly affecting your life. You may need a holter monitor or an event monitor to see what the heart rhythm is during the time you are having palpitations. Or a tilt table test to see if you have vasovagal syncope.

I also forgot to mention that I have been having dizzy spells.  I went to the doctor and he said that they were attributed to the anxiety because all of my other tests had come back normal.  My dad also suffers from dizzy spells for years.  I was just wondering if this was a sign of something more serious.

Your problems are very familiar to me, I went throiugh about the exact same stuff as you with all the tests and scans. Sounds to me like your having anxiety attacks possibly panick attacks as well...Try deep breathing exercises and learn how to calm yourself down when you start to worry...I know it's hard when you feel like there is something is wrong...Remember that stress and worry can make you sick aswell trust me I know!!!Im still dealing with these issues on a daily basis. Try to talk about it with someone who understands...
